WhatsApp Business API
The WhatsApp Business API, explained without the jargon
There are three ways to put a bot on WhatsApp, and only one of them is supported by Meta. If your business depends on its WhatsApp number, that difference matters more than any feature list.
The AI drafts, you approve — nothing reaches a customer without your tap.
Three routes
| WhatsApp Business app | Unofficial tools | Official API | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supported by Meta | Yes | No | Yes |
| Automation | Greeting, away and quick replies only | Yes | Yes — built for it |
| AI bot that answers real questions | No | Possible | Yes |
| Risk to your number | Low | Meta can ban numbers that use them | Low when Meta's messaging rules are followed |
| Several staff on one number | Limited | Varies | Yes |
| Meta messaging fees | None | None | Charged by Meta for template messages |
| Best for | One person answering by hand | Businesses that accept the risk | Businesses that depend on their number |
Our recommendation
2ndU supports Meta's official WhatsApp Business API, and it is the connection we recommend. The choice is yours, and we will explain the trade-offs plainly before you make it.
On the official route you keep the number your customers already have, and you can keep using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone alongside the AI. The AI answers enquiries from your approved prices and stock; you and your staff can step into any conversation from the app you already know.
Costs
Meta bills its messaging fees directly to your own Meta account. Creatiq does not collect those fees or add a margin to them. Replying to a customer within 24 hours of their last message is free. Meta charges for template messages sent outside that window, such as promotions and reminders, at the rates published on its pricing page for each country and message category.
For a business that mostly answers incoming enquiries, which is most of our customers, the Meta fees are small because replies to customers are not charged. They grow only if you send promotional broadcasts, and those require the customer's consent under Meta's rules.
Straight answers
What is the WhatsApp Business API?
The WhatsApp Business API is Meta's official way for software to send and receive WhatsApp messages on behalf of a business. Unlike the WhatsApp Business app, it is built for automation, AI bots and teams, and it is the only automation route Meta supports.
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Malaysia?
Meta charges per template message, with rates that depend on the message category and the recipient's country, and publishes them on its pricing page. Replies to a customer within 24 hours of their last message are free. Meta bills these fees directly to your Meta account; Creatiq does not add to them.
Can I keep my existing number and the WhatsApp Business app?
Yes. You can keep your current business number and continue using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone while the AI runs on the same number.
How do I get a WhatsApp bot for my business?
Message us with what you sell and the questions customers ask most. We connect your number, set the bot up on your price list and FAQs, and you approve its answers before it goes live. Typical setup takes about 48 hours.
Is a WhatsApp bot allowed by WhatsApp?
Yes, when it runs on the official WhatsApp Business API and follows Meta's messaging rules: reply to people who contacted you, get consent before sending promotions, and do not message scraped or purchased lists.
